Can Explainable AI (Xai) Offset the Effects of Errors?

When interacting with AI-based voice assistants, consumers are more forgiving of minor social errors (violations of social norms) than of minor technical errors (failures of the algorithm or interface).  Explainable AI (XAI) can mitigate the effects of social—but not technical—errors and help overcome consumers’ reluctance to use AI0assisted technologies.
