How my research impacts research practice

I do research that improves marketing practice. I have worked with firms in numerous industries to resolve business problems and invent new ways to use data to improve decisions. My best known work studies advertising response across the customer journey, including measures like brand search, price search, keyword choice, website visitation, sales, brand attitude changes and advertising avoidance. I have also researched branding, digital ad fraud, e-commerce, market design, new product introductions, pricing and retail distribution, among other topics.

How I have worked with businesses

I have spent significant time in residence at Amazon and Google as a consultant. I’ve also consulted for Citibank, Kaiser Permanente, LendingTree, MediaAlpha, RE/MAX and numerous smaller brands. I co-founded Profitable Insights, a boutique consultancy, to facilitate academic/corporate research partnerships enabling scientific publications without censorship. Research partners include Ace Metrix, Autometrics, Carnival, Dish Networks, Google, JD Power, Kantar, Kimberly-Clark, P&G, Rentrak, RevTrax, TVision Insights and YouTube. I consulted on U.S. v. AT&T, which the New York Times called “the antitrust case of the decade.” I served as an advisor to the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority’s online platforms and digital advertising market study. I have served as an expert witness in several cases.

How I like to collaborate

I am open to any role that leads directly to positive impact on marketing practice.
