MSI Announces Executive Director for 2022-2023

The Marketing Science Institute (MSI) is proud to announce John G. Lynch, Jr., Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder, as the MSI Executive Director for 2022-2023. He succeeds Barbara Kahn, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and will begin his MSI appointment in January 2022.

John is the University of Colorado System Distinguished Professor at the Leeds School of Business. He served as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research from 2017-2020 and was the founding Director of the Center for Research on Consumer Financial Decision Making and founding co-chair of the Boulder Summer Conference on Consumer Financial Decision Making. He teaches undergraduate Marketing Research & Analytics, Fundamentals of Marketing & Management, and an MBA elective course, Market Intelligence, which focuses on using data about customers and markets in business decision making. His research focuses on consumer financial decision making, consumer behavior, and research methodology.

From 1979-1996, John was a member of the faculty at University of Florida, where he was a Graduate Research Professor. He was the Roy J. Bostock Professor of Marketing at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University from 1996-2009. John is a Fellow of the American Marketing Association, the Association for Consumer Research, the American Psychological Association/Society for Consumer Psychology and is one of five Fellows of all three organizations in the world.

In 2015, John was cited as one of the 25 most cited marketing scholars in the world, according to the Web of Science. He has received numerous awards including the Paul D. Converse Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Science of Marketing and the Society for Consumer Psychology’s Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award. Most recently, he received the 2021 Consumer Behavior Special Interest Group Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors marketing scholars who have contributed significantly to the field of Consumer Research. Six of John’s published works have been honored as outstanding articles of the year: once by the Journal of Marketing Research and by the Journal of Marketing, and four times by the Journal of Consumer Research for papers written in 1988, 1991, 2010, and 2015.

John has been a long-time advocate of MSI. He has authored and co-authored several working papers, served as an Alden G. Clayton Competition reviewer, and served as an MSI Academic Trustee.
