MSI Announces 2012 Clayton Award Winner

Jayson Jia of Stanford University is the winner of MSI’s 2012 Alden G. Clayton Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Competition. He will receive $5000 for his dissertation proposal, which explores a new construct for understanding consumer hedonic experiences. In addition, Joshua Beck of University of Washington and Eric Schwartz of University of Pennsylvania will receive honorable mention awards of $3000 for their dissertation proposals. All three will be invited to attend MSI spring Trustees Meeting.

They were among 82 doctoral students who entered the annual competition, which was established in 1984 to encourage doctoral work on topics of importance to the marketing community. Past winners include Kevin Lane Keller of Dartmouth College, MSI’s 2013-15 Executive Director, who received the award when he was a Ph.D. student at Duke University. “It gave me the confidence and impetus to pursue the area of advertising and branding,” he said. “MSI’s support was prescient: the branding and brand equity research stream has changed the way businesses build and manage their brands.”
