In Memoriam: John U. Farley, 1985-87 Executive Director

John U. Farley,  1985-87 Executive Director of the Marketing Science Institute, died on April 30, 2018, at his home in Hanover, New Hampshire.

He was C.V. Starr Distinguished Research Fellow at the Tuck School, Dartmouth College, and Ira Lippman Emeritus Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He was on the faculty at Columbia University for over 20 years.

After his two-year tenure as MSI's Executive Director, he continued his service to MSI on the Executive Directors Council and participated in MSI Review Committee meetings for many years.

He is remembered by friends and colleagues, including a number of past MSI Executive Directors, for his independence of thought, insightful perspectives, and wry sense of  humor. His contributions to MSI and to the field were many; as one colleague noted, "He was one of the pillars of marketing thought.”
